Solutions for Eczema
“the best of r/eczema & the web“
This website puts useful information from user forums and websites in one place.
- Please start by visiting the Basics page and the Top Reddit Posts page. After that take a look around — there’s likely a piece of info somewhere that can help you 🙂
- When in doubt, get yourself to a dermatologist
- subreddit <- I made a subreddit as a space to share feedback and inspire discussion; please visit and post
- Feedback can also be shared to eczemaescape@gmail.com
About Me: I’m currently a PhD candidate in cell biology with periodic eczema flares. When I get a severe case I go crazy researching solutions because, frankly, eczema is miserable 🙂
I figured I might as well share the fruits of my labor. I posted my research on this site, which has turned into quite an extensive side project! My process is to read posts on reddit and facebook and record the recommendations that people share from their own experiences. The forums also help me learn what eczema concerns are most present for people so I can develop this website accordingly. This site is a work in progress; last update was January 22, 2026.
For transparency: I get a few pennies on the dollar when people buy products using my amazon links — I figure I might as well get a little back for my work. Any product that is not an amazon link is just one I’ve seen recommended and wanted to share. I only link products that I strongly feel have potential to help. My goal in making this website is to help my fellow eczema warriors heal by finding the information they need.
I know how confusing and frustrating eczema can be. The phrase “I am at my wits’ end” is so common I think it might as well be the motto of this disease 🙂 with luck you can use this site to find the answer you need just a little bit quicker
I’ve noticed there are a few categories of queries; I’m in the process of building this page to organize information by eczema type:
- Parents of Children with Eczema
- How to control itch
- Eye Eczema
- Scalp, Neck, & Face Eczema/Seborrheic Dermatitis
- Hand/Foot/Dyshidrotic Eczema
- Nipple/Areola Eczema

A blurb of my thoughts these days:
What we call “eczema” is just “skin rash that goes away if you put a topical steroid on it”. In reality I think there are many kinds of eczema which can be sorted by root cause, but the the current state of the research hasn’t gone through to tease out what they are.
There are two schools of thought regarding how to treat it: The first is the western method of suppressing the symptoms through steroids, immunosuppressants, and biologics. This method is backed by large pharma companies and is very lucrative, so it gains more momentum. [it sounds like a paranoid stance to take, but it’s true: drugs like dupexint are the “perfect drug” because the user has to take everyday for the rest of their life if they want it to be effective; I would actually be tempted to get a job in that field if I wasn’t personally affected by the disease and of firm stance that the drugs do more harm than good]
The other method of treating eczema is to focus on finding the root cause of the inflammation and eliminate it. This branch is still relatively primitive; the research is a work in progress, and I’m rooting for it. Things like microbiome imbalance, both in the gut and on the skin, likely play a cause, which basically means that things that you put in your mouth and on your skin should be chosen wisely. Omega 3 balance in diet seems to play a role as well. I know that a significant drive of this disease for some is a genetic disposition which causes one to make less of a certain protein, but I’m less familiar with all the types of “eczema mutations”, and what the treatment could be for each. [one example is the MTHFR gene, which can be corrected for in part by taking a folate supplement]
